Things I Wonder While Watching Thomas The Tank Engine

Is this show some kind of metaphor for reality? Where the trains construct a meaningful narrative to make sense of the actions taken by their human controllers — actions that are entirely out of their control — much in the same way we may be driven by biological and chemical processes out of our control and bravely write a story we call life?

Probably not. I think this show is just about trains that talk.

  1. While I’ve never waxed as philosophical as you have while watching Thomas and friends, I do find it amusing that the trains manage to learn critical life lessons (and interpersonal skills) in one 15- or 30- minute episode!
